How to vacuum your pool correctly, step by step — the guide we deliver with every project.

  1. Backwash before vacuuming (if needed).
  2. Close the main drain line.
  3. Prime the vacuum hose.
  4. Connect the hose to the skimmer or a wall port.
  5. Gently vacuum the pool floor.
  6. Remove and store the hose without losing pump prime, and clean the filters.
  7. Open the main drain line.
  8. Turn off the pump, open the drain valve on the filter and set it to backwash.
